Prince William
The lowdown
In 2000, Prince William left Eton after passing three A-levels, obtaining an A in geography, a B in the history of art and a C in biology. He was accepted by the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where he has been studying a four year course in the history of art since September 2001. The number of applications to St Andrews from females has increased significantly in the last year.
Refreshed by a gap year of which the highlight was a month’s labouring on a dairy farm, William arrived in St Andrews yesterday on 23rd September 2001 to begin his four years as an undergraduate.
The two experiences could hardly be more different: whereas 4am is the time for milking the cows, for many students of Scotland’s oldest university it will be the time for going to bed.
Accompanied by his father, the student prince, who asked to be called William Wales by the other 6,500 undergraduates, was driven from lunch with the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother at her holiday home at Birkhall on the Balmoral estate. They arrived at the gates of St Salvator’s College to be greeted by a battery of cameramen, who were urged by St James’s Palace to be out of town by nightfall.
The royal fresher’s term-time home for his first year was a single room in a hall of residence. He lived like any other first-year student except that a personal protection officer stayed next door.
The arrival was not without incident. The Prince of Wales, at the wheel of a green Vauxhall Omega estate car with William by his side, drove up North Street, missed the entrance arch into the college quadrangle and had to reverse for a second attempt. The crowd, which by then numbered a good 2,000, mainly townspeople and holidaymakers, cheered loudly.
Inside the quadrangle the William was met by Dr Brian Lang, the principal, and his partner Tari Hibbitt; Professor Paul Boyle, warden of St Salvator’s Hall, where William had his lodgings; David Corner, the university secretary and registrar; and Dana Green, president of the Students’ Association.
After several minutes the two princes came out to greet the crowd, Charles in a sports jacket and white chinos, and William in faded jeans and a blue pullover. The student prince’s personal detective lurked near by, conspicuous in baggy brown corduroy trousers that no self-respecting undergraduate would be seen dead in.
Prince William, 19, looked apprehensive as the crowd applauded and whistled but he strode boldly forward to shake hands across the crush barriers. In less than five minutes the royal pair had disappeared inside again, leaving the crowd disappointed at such a brief appearance.
William was hoping that his curiosity value to the media and fellow students would soon die away. "It will be easier as time goes on. Everyone will get bored of me," he said.
The Press Complaints Commission guidelines that helped to ensure that he was largely left alone at Eton no longer apply at St Andrews, however. His public engagements in Scotland on the previous Friday were intended as a trade-off, but some freelance cameramen have continued stalking the streets of St Andrews in the hope of catching the Prince with a female student on his arm. Dr Lang has told students they could be expelled if they pass on royal tittle-tattle to the press.
Ironically, some of the cameramen lurking the streets in the following weeks were working for William's uncle, Prince Edward.
Prince William said he would spend his big nights out in Edinburgh, an hour’s drive away, as he understood St Andrews was a less than vibrant town at weekends, despite its 22 pubs. "I’m not a party animal, despite what some people might think, but I like to go out sometimes like anyone else," he said. |

Web Blog or Blog is defined as:
a public web site where users post informal journals of their thoughts, comments, and philosophies, updated frequently and normally reflecting the views of the blog's creator.
www.geocities.com/Athens/2405/glossary.html
Web LOG is a journal kept on the internet. This journal is often updated daily and contains all information that the person maintaining the BLOG (Blogger) wishes to share with the world. Also applies to websites dedicated to a particular topic and being updated with the latest news, views and trends.
A weblog, web log or simply a blog, is a journal or diary-like web application consisting of time-stamped “posts”. Blogs comes in many different formats, from highly personal to corporate and opinion based and can use complex information architectures, grouping posts into categories and sections. Blog is a general term used to describe smaller subsets of weblogs, such as warblogs, photoblogs, and audioblogs (referred to as podcasting). In addition to posts, blogs usually contain a “blogroll”, a collection of links, archives, and syndicated feeds in a variety of format, usually RSS or Atom. On a blog, posts are usually open to comments and trackbacks, making them conversations of sorts
Types of BLOGS:
Personal Blog, Corporate Blog, Photo Blog, Mobile Blog, Audio Blog,Technology Blog
Problems and Social relevance of Blog
The ability to easily publish content has gotten plenty of people in trouble. The web is a dynamic medium, and tools that allow people to post opinions, experiences and rumours without fact- checking or verification can cause problems, even scandals.
Apple has taken bloggers to court for releasing confidential information, even going as far as to secure court orders demanding they release their sources. Scandals involving American politicians and young interns who publish their escapades have led to resignations of powerful people.
The free speech imperative of the blog world has also had a deep social impact. For example, a number of companies have clashed with bloggers, firing a few of them (for example Heather Armstrong, Mark Jen or Jessica Cutler).
Blogs have also been seen as repositories for information about the state of mind of certain people: in some cases, they could provide insight in the minds of people who committed suicide, people who committed crimes, or people who were victims of a crime (in 2005, a blogger named his murderer in the last entry on his blog [5]).
As a Blogger:
- you are entitled to your own opinion....of course but not at the expense of other people
- not all views and opinions are bound for public exposure so have restrictions

LEX LUTHOR is MICHAEL ROSENBAUM in the series SMALLVILLE
Michael Rosenbaum has displayed his versatility as an actor by tackling diverse roles. Equally adept at comedy and drama, Rosenbaum has played characters ranging from a transvestite to a crazed fraternity boy to the intriguing Lex Luthor. In addition to his wide range of talent in front of the camera, this gifted actor is also a skillful writer and voice-over artist.border
Since the fall of 2001, Rosenbaum has starred as Lex Luthor in the highly successful WB series, Smallville, based on the original "Superman" concept. Following the story of the teenage Clark Kent in Smallville, the series shows the dynamic beginning of the relationships between Clark Kent, Lana Lang and Lex Luthor. For the role, Rosenbaum shaved his head and transformed himself into the spoiled, well-to-do son and future Superman arch-nemesis. His portrayal of Lex has garnered the attention of critics and fans alike. Shot in Vancouver, the one-hour series also stars Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, John Schneider and Annette O'Toole.
In the spring of 2002, Rosenbaum starred in Touchstone's comedy Sorority Boys. Directed by Wally Wolodarsky (The Simpsons), the film focused on three fraternity boys who are accused of embezzling funds from their house and must go undercover as homely sorority girls to gather evidence in order to prove their innocence. The film, described as "Some Like It Hot" meets "Animal House", provided Rosenbaum with an opportunity to display his strong sense of physical comedy. The movie also starred Barry Watson and Harland Williams.
In the summer of 2002 , the independent film Poolhall Junkies (on which Rosenbaum had completed production prior to being cast in Smallville) premiered at the CineVegas Film Festival in Las Vegas. Rosenbaum starred as Danny Doyle, a musician who can follow his dream of playing guitar or follow the path of his pool shark brother. The film included a stellar cast of Christopher Walken, Chazz Palminteri, the late Rod Steiger and Rick Schroeder, and hit theaters in limited release at the beginning of 2003 before being released on DVD in August 2003.
In 2003, Rosenbaum appeared onscreen alongside one of his comedy idols, Steve Martin, in the Touchstone Pictures film, Bringing Down the House. The film, which also starred Eugene Levy and Queen Latifah, told the story of a middle aged lawyer (Martin) whose life is turned upside down by an escaped convict (Latifah) who arrives on his doorstep looking for help in proving she was framed. Rosenbaum took on the supporting role of Todd Gendler, a cocky and ambitious young lawyer looking to one-up Martin's character.
Michael Rosenbaum's additional film credits include Warner Bros. Sweet November with Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves, Columbia/TriStar's thriller Urban Legend, and Warner Bros. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, directed by Clint Eastwood. His television credits include starring as Jack on WB's Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, and The Tom Show.
Rosenbaum is also a talented voice over artist. For the past two seasons, he has been the voice of The Flash on the Cartoon Network animated television series Justice League and has lent his voice to several episodes of such animated series as Batman Beyond and The Wild Thornberries. He also provided the voice of Agent West in the WB Kids animated series, The Zeta Project alongside actor Diedrich Bader. In 2003, Rosenbaum was featured as the voice of Valens in the LucasArts video game Gladius.
Born in New York and raised in Indiana, Rosenbaum discovered his passion for acting at an early age in high school. He continued performing the leads in several stage productions while earning a Bachelor of Arts in theater and communications from Western Kentucky University. After graduation, Rosenbaum headed to New York where he appeared in several off-Broadway productions and in small independent films as well as becoming a regular on "The Conan O'Brien Show" in a comedy sketch called "The Amsterdam Kids."
Athletic and outgoing, Rosenbaum is an avid hockey player and golfer. He is also a dedicated New York Rangers fan. In addition, Rosenbaum has a passion for music, and plays both acoustic and electric guitar.
Rosenbaum currently resides in Vancouver (when Smallville is in production) and Los Angeles. He recently bought a custom van.
QUOTES
Michael on his high school years: I was pretty much a homebody;didn't really go to school dances, never went to a prom. I was a bit of a loner, a geek.
Lex refers to his past that he was this bald headed freak at this elite prep school. Well, I was, like the shortest kid in my high school--really nervous and kind of weird--so I can relate.
